Jamarion Brown, Henderson State Athletics junior men’s basketball student-athlete has died

Arkadelphia, AR — The Henderson State University community is mourning the tragic and untimely death of Jamarion Brown, a junior student-athlete on the men’s basketball team. Known affectionately as “Jo” by teammates, coaches, faculty, and friends, Brown’s passing has left a profound void across campus, especially within the Reddie Athletics family.

On social media, Henderson State Athletics issued a heartfelt statement honoring Brown’s life and legacy, describing him as not only a gifted basketball player but also a cherished member of the university community.

“It is with deep sadness that Henderson State Athletics mourns the death of junior men’s basketball student-athlete Jamarion Brown,” the statement began. “Jo spent just one season in Arkadelphia, but his impact on our campus was profound. His warmth and welcoming personality made him one of the most recognizable and respected students at Henderson State among not only his peers, but by faculty and staff as well.”

A Rising Star on and off the Court

Jamarion Brown joined Henderson State men’s basketball for the 2024–2025 season and quickly became an integral part of the program. Known for his toughness, dedication, and winning attitude, Brown brought intensity and passion to every game. Whether practicing with teammates or stepping onto the court for game day, his presence was a reflection of the Reddie Spirit—a commitment to perseverance, integrity, and heart.

Brown was more than just a competitor—he was a leader and a motivator. His selflessness and work ethic earned the respect and admiration of his peers, coaching staff, and the entire athletic department.

“Between the lines, Jo was a fiery competitor and a beloved teammate,” the university said. “He carved out a role for himself through his toughness, work ethic, selflessness, and winning attitude.”

His coach, Jimmy Elgas, expressed the devastating emotional impact Brown’s death has had on the program and the school.

“No words can express our sadness for Jamarion’s family, friends, and teammates,” Elgas said. “We lift them all up in prayer. Jo’s impact was felt not only on the basketball court, but throughout the fabric of Henderson State University, and we all grieve together. His loss leaves a tremendous void on our campus, but Jo will be remembered and honored in our hearts forever.”
