“At this incredibly difficult time, we are supporting and respecting the privacy of the grieving families,” the board stated. “We are unable to provide further details on the incident or identities of the individuals involved.”

While official identities have not been released by the authorities, community members have since identified the staff member as Matt Eckert, a 33-year-old educator known for his dedication to students, his leadership as a coach, and his unwavering commitment to the school community.


Details of the Fatal Crash Near London, Ontario

According to Middlesex OPP, the crash occurred at a rural intersection approximately 20 kilometres northeast of London, Ontario. The SUV carrying the five victims was traveling through the area when it collided with a transport truck, resulting in a chain reaction that caused the vehicle to crash into a second SUV.

The impact was catastrophic. Two 17-year-old girls and one 16-year-old girl were pronounced dead at the scene. A fourth 16-year-old student, who was airlifted to hospital by Ornge air ambulance, later succumbed to her injuries. Matt Eckert was transported by paramedics to a nearby hospital, where he also died from his injuries.

Police are continuing to investigate the cause of the collision and have not released the names of the other individuals involved. Investigators from the Ontario Provincial Police Traffic Incident Management and Enforcement (TIME) team were deployed to analyze the scene.
